O’Connor, Edwin. The Last Hurrah.

February 4, 1956

Boston: Atlantic Monthly Press/Little, Brown, 1956. its protagonist, Frank Skeffington, is clearly modeled on former Boston mayor James Michael Curley, who tells the author what he thinks of the book in March 1956.* Called by the New York Times, “The best novel about American politics,” it reputedly introduces the term “last hurrah” to the American vocabulary. The novel is made into a movie in 1958,* and a television movie in 1977.*
